Information about Results and Champs Qualifiers

    Good morning Rockville/Dolphin Club!

Amazing effort at the meet last night! In all the years my family has been in GRAL, I've never seen three meets in a row that are so close in points all the way to end.

Below is some information regarding results and Champs qualifiers with our new system, but also some info for newer families who might not know all the nuances of summer swim.

All of the official meet results are posted on the GRAL website, under the main Results tab. https://www.gralva.com/results/records

Always look for "RVDC" (that's our abbreviation) to find our meet. Last night is already posted. Those results are sorted by the divisions in which your child was scored in (based on their seed time). That is where their place comes from. But over to the right, next to the points column, you can also see what division their actual performance was in. So someone new who has never swam that event before would be scored in the Novice division, but may have swum a JV time. At the next meet, that means that swimmer will compete in the JV division. Please note that if your child has an off night and they swim a slower time that is a lower division, they will not move back down to the lower division. Division is based on their seed time, which is their top time from the current season.

GRAL uses five divisions for scoring: novice (N), advanced (ADV), junior varsity (JV), varsity (V), and senior varsity (SV). If your child swims an event at a JV time or faster (JV, V, or SV), they have qualified for Champs in that event. I'm attaching two reports for you to easily see if your child has qualified for Champs as of meet 3. Unfortunately, I can only run the report as meters OR yards, and we have had two meter meets this year. So you should check both reports for your child's name and events listed. Some events are listed on both reports (e.g., you might see 50 free on both reports); that just means your child qualified for that event in a meter swim as well as in the yard swim. But in the long run, all times are converted (Champs is in yards this year) so you don't need to worry about meters vs. yards other than you have to look at both reports.

I hope that info is helpful, and if you have any questions, or you are totally confused, please let me know.

On another topic, the word on the street is that some of our younger families are possibly interested in getting more involved with swim team and learning about ways to help. This is going to be critical to the team's success over the next few years as a few of our long-time committed families will be aging out. My husband, Josh, and I have been around a long time and between the two of us have done most jobs on the team at some point. Many of you newer families might not know me, as I'm more behind the scenes now and am currently involved on the league side. However, I would love to talk to you and share info about how you can help, help you discover jobs you might enjoy, and provide realistic expectations of what each job entails. Please reach out if you have any interest in supporting the Rockville Racers (or the Rockville Center--we need board members!). I am happy to chat and answer any questions.

    Thanks!
